New Loot! (#41) - "Take My Money" Edition

Yet another post in which I tell you of my latest gaming finds...

***Take My Money***
New Loot #41

Yet again, the PC peoples got me with their sales and whatnot. I'm so easy...

From Steam (the Thanksgiving sale they had...I think):

From Steam's Winter Sale (in effect now through Jan 2):
  • Ys I & II Chronicles+ - I've had this on my wishlist for a while. Figured I'd grab it while it was under $5.
  • Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - I started playing this on 360 and for some reason never finished it. I'll finish it this time. Plus it was under $3.
  • Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition - another that's been on my wishlist for a while. Grabbed it for less than $10.
  • Mass Effect - one of hubby's favorite games. Figured I oughtta give it a try when it's under $5.
  • Mass Effect 2 Digital Deluxe Edition - another of hubby's favorites. Pretty sure he said this was his favorite of the three games that are currently out in this series. It was under $5 in the Winter Sale. Plus Steam let me bundle it with the first game and gave me an extra discount.
  • Final Fantasy VI - 'cause I didn't have it yet. Enough reason and it was half off, putting it under $10.
  • Tales of Zestiria - yet another from my wishlist that I just couldn't resist in this sale. It was under $15, and well worth it, if the reviews are to be believed. I grabbed one of the DLCs as well.

From GOG:
  • The Witcher III: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition - I own so much Witcher crap. Games, books, soundtracks, comics; the list goes on and on. Granted, most of that comes with the digital versions of the games from GOG, but the books I buy as they're translated and released here in the US. Everyone had to know I'd eventually get this game. I had to wait a bit for the price on the GOTY edition to drop. Then it went on sale [again] for $30. Now it's mine. All mine. Mwahahahahaha!!!!!!

GOG gave me (as part of their Monstrous Winter Sale):
  • D&D Neverwinter Nights Diamond - Seems interesting. This was the game they gave to everyone just for stopping by and checking out the sale. It was free for 48 hours.
  • Shadow Warrior Classic Redux - Um...it was free for getting 5000 points in the Winter Sale. I don't actually have an opinion on this one...
  • Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut - Again, seems interesting. This was the free game for reaching 15k EXP. I bought Witcher III so I got a crap-ton of points.
  • Stasis - Again, no opinion on this one. It was free for getting 30k points. I did that with one purchase. Go me.

And because I just can't help myself:

Gotten any good games lately? Tell us in the comments. ♥

Until next time...

New Loot (#38) - GOG Got Me Edition

The series of posts wherein I share my latest gaming hauls...

***GOG Got Me***
New Loot #38

Oh my heavens, GOG really got me good this time! I grabbed so many games in this recent sale that I'm just gonna list 'em here instead swiping pics and making everything all fancy-like.

I bought...
  1. World of Goo - I used to have this game way back when it first came out. The developers had it set up on a donation basis. Yes, I gave them money. Yes, it was more than a penny like some people gave them...
  2. Tales from the Borderlands - I wanted this for PC even though I already have it for 360. What can I say? I'm a Borderlands junkie.
  3. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - So many happy memories playing this game on PS1. Weird thing, we never actually bought it. We rented it. Remember back when you could rent video games? Do they still do that?
  4. Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus - The sequel to Abe's Oddysee. Had to get it for that reason alone.
  5. Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee - Another sequel, of sorts. Isn't rated as highly as the other two games, but I figured I oughtta add it anyway.
  6. The Witcher Adventure Game - I have every other Witcher game (except Wild Hunt, but I'm waiting for a slightly lower price) so I grabbed this one.
GOG gave me...
  1. Little Big Adventure 2 (aka Twinsen's Odyssey) - Hey, it was free, so I grabbed it.
  2. Expeditions: Conquistador - Might be fun...
  3. DEX - Looks interesting...
  4. Victor Vran - Yeah, I already have this, but now I have it twice. I really like it. lol
Until next time...

GOG's Huge Fall Sale is RIGHT NOW!

I am a sucker for a PC game sale and GOG knows just how to hook me. In their big sales, you can earn free games. Check it out...

***GOG's Huge Fall Sale***
Happening NOW!

Graphic I swiped from GOG's site. Clicking it will take you to GOG.com.

GOG has most of their catalog on sale right now. Telltale games, Witcher games, LEGO games, Oddworld games, old school retro style games, and more. There's a crap-ton I've never heard of, but that's not difficult; I'm not all that familiar with retro PC games.

I mentioned FREE GAMES, didn't I? You can earn them by doing little, cost-free things on the site. Seriously. The last sale I actually earned a game without buying anything—I just didn't have any money at the time. Don't you judge me. Buying games earns you the free ones faster, of course, and to earn the 30,000 XP game, you'll definitely have to part with some cash. Which means more games. And that's a good thing.

So what are the games you can earn? Expeditions: Conquistador (5,000 XP); DEX (15,000 XP); and Victor Vran (30,000 XP). And to give an example of how the XP works when buying games, if you buy the Game of the Year Edition of Witcher III The Wild Hunt (on sale for $29.99) and The Witcher (on sale for $1.49) you'll earn 31,490 XP (29,990 + 1,500), which will net you all three games. Heck, just logging in and buying Witcher III will net you all three, since logging in gives you 1000 XP. See where I'm going with this?

The best part about GOG games is that they're DRM-free. You don't have to be online to play. So go check it out, grab an inexpensive game, and get to playing!

*All the mentioned games are property of their respective owners. GOG does not in any way support or endorse this gaming / fan / reviews blog. The HGG is not affiliated with GOG or any of the aforementioned games, their developers, or their publishers.

Tips N Tricks Tuesday (#14) - Wrong Order, Idiot! (Witcher)

The series of blog posts in which I share a gaming tip or trick. These are mostly Borderlands. But today's is not! [happy grin]

***Wrong Order, Idiot!***
Reaping Time Main Quest
A Lost Lamb Side Quest
The Witcher

I don't come up against too many issues in The Witcher, but the other day I was playing and accidentally failed a quest that I'd all but turned in. My jaw dropped, completely shocked, but I wasn't too upset. I'd saved right before and could simply reload the game and try again. Check it out below. ▼

Tips N Tricks Tuesday (#6) - Killing the Golem (The Witcher)

Finally! A tip that's not related to Borderlands! LOL This one's for The Witcher. Enjoy the lightning goodness!

***Killing the Golem***
The Witcher

This tip is one I got from the strategy guide that came with my copy of The Witcher. I'm not sure who wrote it. Someone from CD Projekt, perhaps?

Watch the vid for a demonstration that almost results in Geralt's death. ▼

Screenshot Saturday (#22) - The Witcher

I've spent several hours playing The Witcher, but have shared very little about it. Let's remedy that, shall we? Here are a few screenshots.

Another GoG Sale: Earn FREE Games!

GoG's big summer sale is happening now!

***GoG Sale***

GoG's summer sale is on and you can earn free games! Just collect XP, which can be earned by doing little tasks assigned right on the site, or by buying games.

Yeah, so buying games doesn't really equal free, but some games are as little as $1.49 (Witcher Enhanced Edition, Witcher Adventure Game, and others), which will earn you 1500 XP each. Then just do the little things around the site they set up for you and you'll have earned the 5000 XP required to get Spelunky for free. Looks like a cute little platformer.

Of course, all of the Witcher games are on sale. Witcher III Wild Hunt is 50% off, making it only $24.99. All the expansions are on sale too. If retro Tomb Raider is your thing, you can grab all the old games for only $7.47. There are also Star Trek games and Dungeons & Dragons games. A little something for everyone.

The sale ends June 22, so you have only a few days to decide. Happy gaming! ♥

Until next time...

GOG Sale - Witcher & Torchlight

Fans of DRM-free PC games might be interested in the sale over on GOG right now.

All the Witcher games are on sale (and GOG is owned by CD Projekt, developer of the Witcher games, so buying the Witcher games from them is kind of a DUH, lol). The first Witcher game is only $1.49 right now, and Witcher 2 is only $2.99. If you've been wanting to try a Witcher game, now's the time. There are some great mods out there for these games, too. I will say, though, these games definitely deserve their M (Mature 17+) ratings.

The Torchlight games are also on sale. Torchlight is a fun action rpg that I've played on Xbox 360, rated T. Gotta say, I'm seriously tempted to grab the PC edition. In fact, I can't think of a single reason why I shouldn't. It's only $3.74. For DRM-free. It's really hard to beat that price and have the ability to play with mods, if modding is your thing. Torchlight II is also on sale for half off, making it only $9.99.

I don't know how long the sale prices will last, though the site indicates the Witcher series will be on sale for another 7 days or so. There are other games on sale too, so click on over and check it all out!

*Witcher screenshot was taken by me, but all things Witcher and GOG are © CD Projekt. This company does not in any way endorse this fan blog.

Until next time...

New Loot! (#20)

Here're some my latest PC scores. OK, I admit it. I got these a few weeks ago. Seriously, I may have a problem. I broke down and got an account at GOG.com and Steam. I just can't help myself when they offer me cool games for less than $5.

***Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD***

Oddworld Stranger's Wrath HDPublished by EA Games/Oddworld Inhabitants
Developed by Oddworld Inhabitants
Released 2010
*Rated T for Teen*

This was one of those odd splurges that I can't really explain. I remember playing one of the Oddworld games on my playstation about a billion years ago, and I remember thinking it was a fun game. So this one intrigued me and it was only a couple bucks. I've only played it for a few minutes and the controls are kinda messed up, so I have some tweaking to do before I can really get into it.

When I bought this, I also grabbed The Witcher and The Witcher 2. My disc version of Witcher didn't want to work with my PC (PC's too new or something), so I just grabbed the DRM-free version from GOG for only $1.49, and since it was also on sale, I grabbed Witcher 2 while I was there (only $2.99). For spending more than $5 that day, GOG gave me System Shock 2 for free. Not sure I'll play that one, but I have it.

    Published by DotEmu
    Developed by DotEmu
    Released 2015 (trilogy)
    *Unrated*

GOG offered this for $1.49 and Double Dragon II is one of those fond childhood memories for me. Figured the price was right, though I suspect playing it again will distinctly pale in comparison to the memory.

Sorry, I don't have any images of this one yet. Once I play it, I'll get some screencaps. :)

    ***DmC Devil May Cry***
    Complete Collection

    Published by Capcom
    Developed by Ninja Theory
    Released 2013
    Action, Hack n Slash
    *Rated M for Mature 17+*

I'm a Devil May Cry junkie. A bad one. I think I own just about everything to do with DMC now. And I mean everything. I think. I even have every episode of the short-lived* anime show. I am missing some soundtracks, come to think of it. In fact, I don't think I even want the OST for this particular DmC.

I grabbed all the DLC to go with this too. I mean, when I want a game, I want the FULL game, dammit! lol
*The life of this show might have been pre-determined, I don't know. It was only 12 episodes, though, so pretty darn short.

      ***Devil May Cry 4***
      Special Edition

      Published by Capcom
      Developed by Capcom
      Released 2015
      Action, Hack n Slash
      *Rated M for Mature 17+*

This edition of DMC4 was just released in mid-2015. It has five playable characters instead of the two in the standard edition that came out on Xbox 360 and PS3. The SE was released for PC, PS4 and Xbone. I have a PS4, but grabbed the PC version 'cause, why not? I ♥ my PC. I may eventually grab the PS4 version, but at this point I don't see a reason to.

***Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening***
        Special Edition

        Published by Capcom
        Developed by Capcom
        Released 2005 (PC port 2006)
        Action, Hack n Slash
        *Rated M for Mature 17+*

I have this in my copy of Devil May Cry HD Collection for Xbox 360, but I wanted to play with mods and whatnot, so I grabbed the PC version when Steam offered it at a discount. I installed the one mod I read was completely necessary to make this PC port enjoyable, but I've yet to try it out. There's a possibility I'll hate it. If so, I still have the Devil May Cry HD Collection for my 360, so no real loss. :)

          ***Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning***

          Published by EA Games/38 Studios
Developed by Big Huge Games/38 Studios
          Released 2012
          Action RPG
          *Rated M for Mature 17+*

I'm not entirely sure why I grabbed this from Steam other than it was on sale. Pretty pathetic, right? Don't get me wrong, I really like this game. I've beaten it on the 360, including all the DLC, so I'm not entirely sure why I wanted it for the PC too. Maybe I'll mod it. There aren't many, if any, mods for this game, at least not any i can find. It needs some. I need to learn to mod, so why not mod a game that needs a few, right? :)

          Until next time...

          New Loot! (#19)

I can't seem to stop buying games, even knowing I don't have time to play them all. There's something broken in my head...

          ***Heavenly Sword***

          Published by Sony Computer Entertainment
          Developed by Ninja Theory
          Released 2007
          PlayStation Exclusive
          *Rated T for Teen*

I bought a PS3 game and I don't even have a PS3. I think that might mean I have a problem. However, this is a Ninja Theory game and I LOVE them. L.O.V.E. It's an unhealthy obsession, really. Stalkerly, even. OK, maybe not that bad. Still.

Oh, and guess what else? I discovered there's a movie of this game, one that runs parallel to the game, according to the reviews I've read on Amazon. I've added it to my wishlist, of course.

          ***Dante's Inferno***

          Published by EA Games
          Developed by Visceral Games
          Released 2010
          *Rated M for Mature 17+*

Um, yeah. I can't exactly remember why I got this other than it seemed to be the type of game I'd enjoy. I don't even remember exactly what it's about, other than the classic poem by Dante. You know the one. Inferno? [snort]

          ***N3 Ninety Nine Nights***

          Published by Microsoft Studios
          Developed by Q Entertainment/Phantagram
          Released 2006
          Xbox Exclusive
          *Rated M for Mature 17+*

I have the second game, so I needed the first. Right? Am I right? Yeah, sure. Anyway, I got it. I'll play it. I enjoy the second game though it gives me fits from time to time. Crazy psycho, throw-the-controller fits. Yeah... there's  definitely something broken in my head...

          ***Venetica***

          Published by dtp entertainment/Atari
          Developed by Deck 13 Interactive
          Released 2009
          *Rated T for Teen*

Another I bought 'cause it seemed like a game I'd like. I opted for the PC version 'cause it was cheaper and I like my PC. We'll see how that goes...

          Also available for PS3.

          ***The Last Wish***
          Introducing the Witcher

          Written by Andrzej Sapkowski
          Published by Orbit
          Released 2008

Not a game, but certainly related to a few. I'm not sure how much I'll actually like this book, but I figured I'd buy the first in the series and give it a shot. I have a feeling the gore might be a little more than I'm comfortable with, but who knows. Maybe the games are more graphic. LOL

          Until next time...

          New Loot! (#14)

          Adding to my PC collection...

          ***The Witcher***
          Enhanced Edition

          Published by Atari
          Developed by CD Projekt RED
          Released 2008
          *Rated M for Mature 17+*

So this is a PC only game, and as such does not work with an Xbox controller. I'm a little weirded out about that—I've NEVER played a PC game with a keyboard unless you count the billion clicker games I used to play... right, even that's not a keyboard, just a mouse. But I've played Witcher 2, so I wanted to get the "beginning" of the story. And yes, I will then play Witcher III and continue the story. I do love a good story with my game.

I've installed this game on my PC, but there are issues, so I have to tweak some things before I can play it. Good thing I married a computer nerd...

          ***The Last Remnant***

          Published by Square Enix
          Developed by Square Enix
          Released 2009
          *Rated M for Mature 17+*

I already own this for Xbox 360 (really like this game) and now I have the PC edition. I have a feeling I'll be collecting all my favorite console games on PC too.

          Until next time...

          New Loot! (#3)

I guess I lied when I said I rarely get new games. [shrug] Here's my latest score. ☺

          ***Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition***

I've heard good (and bad) things about the Witcher series, but the bottom line: It's supposed to be one of the better storylines in gaming. That sold me. I'll try to overlook anything I find objectionable, and hopefully there isn't so much that I have a hard time enjoying the story and gameplay. We'll see.

Another selling point for me is that this game includes the complete soundtrack. I'm really getting into collecting game soundtracks lately and I hope this is one I like.

***Devil May Cry 4 Original Soundtrack***

Speaking of OSTs, the other thing in this box of loot is the complete soundtrack for Devil May Cry 4. Yes, I said I would get it and I was done waiting (worst week of my life! lol). It set me back $20 but for 100+ songs on three discs, I'd say that's fair. I've liked the music since my first playthrough, so it makes sense to add this to my collection.

I shouldn't be adding any new loot for a while. I mean, I have bills to pay and two children to feed. My royalties don't allow for most of my money to be spent on my gaming habit. I wish. lol ;)
