On the Horizon #19 - Devil May Cry HD Collection

The blog series in which I yammer on about some game or game-related item that I'm really looking forward to owning. There are so many....

***On the Horizon***
Devil May Cry HD Collection

Totally swiped this graphic from Capcom's DMC blog.
It links back to them, so click it for more info.

Capcom announced on Dec 7 that they would be releasing the Devil May Cry HD Collection again, but this time for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It's set to release March 13, 2018.

No, this game is not new. In fact, it's three really OLD games from the days of PS2. They were packed together and prettied up a bit for PS3 and 360, but now they're being once-overed yet again for PC and newer-gen consoles.

The really great thing about this news isn't that they're being released on newer-gen consoles. No, it's that DMC 1 and 2 are finally being released on PC. These games have never been available for PC before, so for those of us who really like our PCs, YAY!!!

That's all for now. Happy gaming! ♥

Until next time...

Movie Monday (#35) - Simple Traversal (DmC)

The blog series where I share a gaming vid. These are most often me, playing a game. Usually not well.

Secret Mission
DmC Devil May Cry (Definitive Edition)

I've spent many, many hours playing DmC Devil May Cry. First on the 360 (over 600 hrs, believe it or not), then on PC, and then the Definitive Edition on PS4. For some reason, I just love this game. (And yes, I've reviewed it. You can find that HERE.)

Anyway, I've embedded a video below, from the Definitive Edition. It's one of the Secret Missions that the game features. This particular one is part of the platforming involved in this game. Enjoy! ▼

A smattering of screenshots from some random game I'm playing, sometimes in a rather random order...

Today's selection is from Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition. Enjoy! ♥

Screenshot Saturday (#30) - DmC Skin Mods

DmC is one of my favorite games. I get a kick out of this decidedly different take on the Devil May Cry story / franchise. My favorite part of the PC edition is the modding. And I learned how to do my own skin mods. (This doesn't modify the gameplay at all.) Here are a few screens from my various PC playthroughs, featuring a few of my favorite skins I've done. Enjoy! ♥

—Game Review— Devil May Cry 4

I bought the standard edition of this game for a measly $5 one day in a huge sale Microsoft was having on Xbox Live. I liked the demo well enough to spend $5 to try the full game. Dang, I'm so glad I did! It's now in my Top 12 games.

Since I have both, I'll review the standard and special editions. They are very, very similar, especially gameplay-wise. The biggest difference is the extra playable characters you get with the SE.

Movie Monday (#19) - Trish's Bloody Palace (DMC4)

It's time for another gaming clip from yours truly. For this week's selection, I've shared a bit of the Bloody Palace from Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition. I'm using Trish in this particular bit. I find her the easiest to use, though I still completely suck at arenas...which is all the Bloody Palace is. It should be noted that this is only a few early levels of the Bloody Palace. I went on to beat several more levels, but then I died. Horribly. Well, Trish did. I didn't record that.

Enjoy! ♥

—DLC Review— Vergil's Downfall (DmC)

After playing just a bit of Vergil's downfall, I realized that I really should review some DLC separate from the game. Some DLC is just that good ...or bad.

Tips N Tricks Tuesday (#3) - Red Orb Farming With Lady (DMC4)

I'm a huge fan of the Devil May Cry series (all of them, really. Read my review of DmC HERE), so I've picked up a thing or two during my 200+ hours of gameplay. The following trick from Devil May Cry 4 is one I make use of quite a bit.

**Red Orb Farming With Lady**

So, first off, if you want to use Lady for this, you have to have the Special Edition. However, this trick can be done with Nero in the standard edition.

—Game Review— DmC Devil May Cry

I've played through this game several times on the 360 and now I've treated myself to the PC edition, because...well, why not? ☺ Having the PC version means screencaps and new impressions, though the gameplay itself isn't any different from the console version. (Yes, I PC game using a 360 controller.) I've also bought myself the Definitive Edition for PS4, 'cause....again, why not? Might as well own them all. LOL

Tips N Tricks Tuesday (#1) - Red Orb Farming with Dante (DmC)

On Tuesdays—not all Tuesdays, but some Tuesdays—I will now be sharing various gaming tips and tricks I've discovered over the years. These will mostly be my own discoveries, and probably won't be anything great or anything someone else hasn't already discovered, but they helped me and theoretically should help others. When I share other people's tricks that I've used myself, I will endeavor to give credit where credit is due. I will include screenshots and/or videos when I can, because a picture really is worth a thousand words in gaming.

For my very first tip, here's one that I discovered during my first playthrough of the Xbox 360 edition of DmC Devil May Cry (aka DMC5).

Please note: This is an M-rated game, though there isn't anything M-rated in this vid. No language, and only inanimate objects are destroyed. ▼

DmC Devil May Cry quickly became one of my favorite games. So much so that after buying the Xbox 360 edition, I also grabbed the PS4 Definitive Edition and then the PC edition. I may have a problem...

Movie Monday (#8) - DmC Devil May Cry

For the many, many hours I've played DmC Devil May Cry, it's weird how little I've actually shared with anyone.

I've selected a short video I saved of me taking out a hell knight and a frost knight. Each only takes damage from a certain type of attack and in this game, they like to throw both of these at you at once.

This is an M-rated game, so if you're squeamish about that, you might want to skip this particular Movie Monday. Otherwise, enjoy! ♥

I may have gone a little crazy with the tattoos, but I really like tattoos. Oh well. This is one of the skin mods I've done. I've got more recent ones, but need to get some good screenshots.

The facial hair is a mod done by DmC Mods member Jareda. I use it in all my Dante mods. :)

New Loot! (#26)

A few non-FF games we've gotten recently...

***White Knight Chronicles II***

When I first asked hubby about getting a PS3, he told me to look for playstation exclusive games and let him know how many there were that I wanted. He was trying to determine if there were enough to make the purchase worthwhile. This was one of the games I found and added to the list.

I originally wanted the first game, White Knight Chronicles, but then I discovered that II includes a remastered edition of WKC I. Soon as hubby informed me that he'd ordered a PS3, I had him order this game for me. :D

Five games in one, though the copy we got doesn't have the two games that are download codes. It's a chance one takes when ordering used games. Ah, well.

This one might have been a mistake anyway. Not sure yet. I'll have to play it and see if it's too gory for my delicate sensibilities. ;) It might end up being hubby's game, but he never really cared for bloodbaths either. We'll see.

2015 — My Gaming Year In Review

Gaming was more of an obsession for me this year than ever before.
  • I collected more games this year than in the previous decade (or so it seems). NOTE: I looked. Um... yeah, close to it. 30+ games were added to my library just this year. Actually, that's just based on the games I shared here on this blog. There's another batch I haven't gotten around to posting yet. Damn Steam and their sales. Grumble, grumble. That doesn't include the games hubby added to his collection, or the kids' collection.
  • Hubby got my gaming PC set up last year and early this year upgraded it enough to smoothly play at least fairly recent games.
  • I gave Dante angel wings...
    ©Capcom*
  • With the help of DmCmods.com, I learned how to use Texmod to modify the skins in DmC Devil May Cry. Holy crap. Fun. I've done a bunch of character skin mods for this game and I just love that. I haven't publicly shared any yet, but one day I will. Here's an example of one of my mods. →
  • I got a PlayStation 4 (gift from hubby).
  • We got to be part of the Battleborn closed technical test—cool game!—hubby on his Xbox One and me on my PS4. The point was to see how much stress the servers could take. There was a day where neither hubby nor I could log in for an hour or so. I think the servers were properly stressed. lol
  • I joined GOG.com and Steam so I could add to my PC games collection.
  • I played some great games and tried out some not-so-great ones.
  • I even managed to [finally] post an actual game review on my blog. It's probably not a great review (I'm new game reviewing so I still have a lot to learn), other than it's for a game I love.
  • Thanx to my oldest brother (also a gamer), I discovered Sword Art Online. Holy freakin' crap. OMG. Wow. I normally don't like anime, but when the writing is good I don't really care about the graphics style, and this show has some really good writing behind it. I will be getting every related game available for PS4. And streaming the show is just not enough. I will be getting all the DVDs too. Again. Wow.

And now, a list. Gaming blogs are known for lists, right?

The Heartless Gamer Girl's
***Top 5 Games of 2015***

What kind of gaming blog would this be if I didn't share my top games of 2015? That's right. A crappy gaming blog. So here's my list of games.

These are MY top five, as in games I played this year that I liked. Release year has nothing to do with it. My all-time top games list has nothing to do with it. The opinions of other gaming sites play no part either. A few may be old favorites I replayed.

Class Zero from Final Fantasy Type-0 HD
©Square Enix*
  1. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD - I don't care what anyone says. I LOVE the story in this game. I love the grittiness, the darkness, the bloodiness (okay, not really), and the sob fest that comes with it. I love the replayableness of it too. (Not a word, but it should be.) The graphics suck, but the story more than makes up for that. - rated m for mature 17+
  2. Tales of Vesperia - I didn't think I'd like this 'cause of the anime style graphics, but I could overlook that. The story is great, and the gameplay is interesting. An all around engaging and fun game. The humor was unexpected and I loved it. Now I want to give all the "Tales of" games a try. - rated t for teen
  3. Gears of War: Judgment - I wasn't even gonna try this game (it was a free Xbox Live Gold download), but I'm glad I did. It was funnier than I expected. I played through it more than once and then went and got the two in this series I was missing. - rated m for mature 17+
  4. DmC Devil May Cry - I rediscovered this gem. Okay, I never really lost it. But I began playing with PC mods and this was the game I started with. After playing with other people's mods, I started making my own. Just textures so far, but it's a start. - rated m for mature 17+
  5. Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae DEMO - Yes, I got my hands on this—when I bought FF Type-0—and immediately downloaded it. Unlike most gamers, though, I played Type-0 first. ;) However, I did get around to playing this eventually and it is good. Especially for a demo. I was already looking forward to this game. Now I can hardly wait. - no rating on the demo

New Loot! (#20)

Here're some my latest PC scores. OK, I admit it. I got these a few weeks ago. Seriously, I may have a problem. I broke down and got an account at GOG.com and Steam. I just can't help myself when they offer me cool games for less than $5.

***Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD***

Oddworld Stranger's Wrath HDPublished by EA Games/Oddworld Inhabitants
Developed by Oddworld Inhabitants
Released 2010
*Rated T for Teen*

This was one of those odd splurges that I can't really explain. I remember playing one of the Oddworld games on my playstation about a billion years ago, and I remember thinking it was a fun game. So this one intrigued me and it was only a couple bucks. I've only played it for a few minutes and the controls are kinda messed up, so I have some tweaking to do before I can really get into it.

When I bought this, I also grabbed The Witcher and The Witcher 2. My disc version of Witcher didn't want to work with my PC (PC's too new or something), so I just grabbed the DRM-free version from GOG for only $1.49, and since it was also on sale, I grabbed Witcher 2 while I was there (only $2.99). For spending more than $5 that day, GOG gave me System Shock 2 for free. Not sure I'll play that one, but I have it.

GOG offered this for $1.49 and Double Dragon II is one of those fond childhood memories for me. Figured the price was right, though I suspect playing it again will distinctly pale in comparison to the memory.

Sorry, I don't have any images of this one yet. Once I play it, I'll get some screencaps. :)

I'm a Devil May Cry junkie. A bad one. I think I own just about everything to do with DMC now. And I mean everything. I think. I even have every episode of the short-lived* anime show. I am missing some soundtracks, come to think of it. In fact, I don't think I even want the OST for this particular DmC.

I grabbed all the DLC to go with this too. I mean, when I want a game, I want the FULL game, dammit! lol
*The life of this show might have been pre-determined, I don't know. It was only 12 episodes, though, so pretty darn short.

This edition of DMC4 was just released in mid-2015. It has five playable characters instead of the two in the standard edition that came out on Xbox 360 and PS3. The SE was released for PC, PS4 and Xbone. I have a PS4, but grabbed the PC version 'cause, why not? I ♥ my PC. I may eventually grab the PS4 version, but at this point I don't see a reason to.

I have this in my copy of Devil May Cry HD Collection for Xbox 360, but I wanted to play with mods and whatnot, so I grabbed the PC version when Steam offered it at a discount. I installed the one mod I read was completely necessary to make this PC port enjoyable, but I've yet to try it out. There's a possibility I'll hate it. If so, I still have the Devil May Cry HD Collection for my 360, so no real loss. :)

I'm not entirely sure why I grabbed this from Steam other than it was on sale. Pretty pathetic, right? Don't get me wrong, I really like this game. I've beaten it on the 360, including all the DLC, so I'm not entirely sure why I wanted it for the PC too. Maybe I'll mod it. There aren't many, if any, mods for this game, at least not any i can find. It needs some. I need to learn to mod, so why not mod a game that needs a few, right? :)

          New Loot! (#15)

Now that I have a PS4 I gotta build up my collection. ☺

I never got the opportunity to play FFX since I didn't have a PS2 for long. (I actually had one, once upon a time, but I only ever had two or three games for it. I think I only spent a total of 2 hrs playing the thing. Which is weird when I think about it now...)

I got the PS4 Limited Edition, not the PS3 version, but I've included the link to the PS3 version anyway. That's the first time the HD remaster was released. The PS4 limited edition includes a neat desk calendar. As far as I can tell, that's the only difference between the PS4 Limited and Standard Editions.

I have the standard edition for Xbox 360 (as well as all the DLC), and now I've finally gotten my hands on the Definitive Edition for the PS4. I have the Def Ed now and that means I have access to the extra stuff you can't get with the standard edition.

I collect these games. I still abhor the whole sneaking around stabbing people thing, but I just can't NOT get one when it comes out. I've heard things about this game that makes me think it was a bit rushed out the door, but I still need to give it a playthrough and see for myself what's great and what's not. I already know the setting is spectacular, so I'm looking forward to that. I got the PS4 version, and it will be weird learning a different controller for this game, but I'll master it. The LE includes an extra mission of some sort, but that's all I know at the moment.
