On the Horizon (#2)

Another post where I dream about the games to come...

***Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel***

Published by 2K Games
Developed by Gearbox Software
Coming 2014 (October)
*Rated M for Mature 17+*

This is one of those games I can't help but be excited about. I really enjoyed the first two games, the second being even better than the first. I have high hopes of the Pre-Sequel. My husband and brother are just as excited about this one.

For those unfamiliar with the Borderlands games, they are first person shooters, multi-player, and a heckuva lotta fun. The comedy is crass and often dark. This is definitely a series of games that doesn't take themselves too seriously.

New Loot! (#2)

I have the bestest* hubby ever. I really do. He doesn't understand my gaming obsession, but he tries. It's sweet. (He's a casual gamer, only playing a little here and there when the mood strikes him.)

When I approached him about the Devil May Cry 4 Collector's Edition I found on eBay—I already have the game on my xbox so I really didn't need the game again—he clicked all the required buttons to make sure it was mine, all mine. (I don't have an eBay account, and he does.) He's such a doll. ♥

In my many, many hours playing DMC4 (current count is 160+ last I checked), I realized how much I enjoyed the music. So I looked into getting the soundtrack. (I think I'm just gonna give in and collect the soundtracks from all the games I play. COLLECT ALL THE SOUNDTRACKS!!)

Ehem.

Anyway, I discovered the DMC4 Collector's Edition includes the soundtrack. Imagine my delight!

ONLY FIVE!?!
So this little beauty arrives and I tear open the box. It's in a fancy metal box, with a bonus DVD and a special DVD of the animated show. I popped the bonus DVD into the computer and pored over the content, eager to find the music, determined to have it on my mp3 player within the next twenty minutes.

Alas, "game soundtrack" does not mean the whole soundtrack. It means five (FIVE!!!) songs from the game. Granted, they are the main songs, the ones that would probably be most in demand, but still. FIVE.

I'll get over my disappointment, and I'll enjoy these five songs until I get my hands on the WHOLE soundtrack. But that doesn't mean I'm not pouting right now. :'(

*You may not think bestest is a word, but my best friend assures me it is, and she's never wrong. ;)

On the Horizon (#1)

Ever have those games you can hardly wait to own? I'm in that boat just like anyone else, so here's my first post to that effect.

Assassin's Creed: Rogue & Assassin's Creed: Unity

I'm a reluctant fan of the Assassin's Creed series. I say reluctant because there is just something... distasteful about being a dude (or chick—AC: Liberation) runnin' around stabbing people for looking at ya funny. (I know, there's more to it than that. Still.)

I am a huge fan of the graphics and settings for this series. (I write historical romance, for heaven's sake, so of course I'm in love with well done historical settings!) I hate tailing missions (who doesn't?) and platforming, but they're worth it to be able to climb to the top of a church and take that leap of faith. I can't tell you how much I love that. I used to do that with Lara Croft way back in Tomb Raider (2, I think), and she didn't survive the jump. Couldn't help myself, I made her leap anyway. (Does that mean I'm crazy??)

I digress.

Reasons for my anticipation for these games...

The conspiracy theories. I simply love the conspiracies that the AC developers include in their games. LOVE. THEM. It adds a certain... eeriness to the overall feel of the game. My opinion, and it's a weird one, I know, but I live with a conspiracy nut and I'm a bit of one myself.

There are other games I'm looking forward to, but I'll leave it at that for now.

Happy gaming! ♥

New Loot! (#1)

I may not buy games very often, but I figured I'd post when I do. The mail arrived today and in the Amazon box were the following games:

I've seen mixed reviews of the Devil May Cry HD Collection, but I knew I had to have it. I played halfway through the easy difficulty (Human) on Devil May Cry 4 (I've since played through the Devil Hunter difficulty and started on the Son of Sparda difficulty) and fell in love with the game. Naturally I looked into the previous games and was thrilled to find the first three games in one collection. Even better, a brand-new DmC game was also available and had been out long enough for the price to have come way down (YAY!!), putting it right in my price range. Even better than that, DmC was done by Ninja Theory, the freaking awesome developer behind Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Score!

Skyrim is a belated anniversary gift for my husband. This edition includes the DLC, and it's the one he indicated he'd be interested in playing. I'll probably play it too, but it's going to reside with his Xbox and his TV rather than mine.

The Heartless Gamer Girl has arrived!

I game. It's what I do when I'm depressed, though I sometimes use it for brainstorming. (I'm a writer.) Basically, it's a great escape, and a great way to burn off anger that has no other outlet. (I'm emotional.)

So here's this blog, one of about a dozen blogs I own, and this one will be dedicated to this side of myself that I barely understand. It's a side I might be a little ashamed of, but one I kinda love.

I love video games. Enough that I don't care about the lingo, the "in" thing, or the crowds and pastimes that typically appeal to gamers. Yes, I call myself a gamer. No, I don't really identify with gamers.

Xbox 360 is my current dealer, action RPGs and JRPGs my drug of choice. I've been known to venture into other genres, but these are the two I really enjoy.

Favorite game (ATM): Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Seriously love this game and I will write an official review for it, which I will then post on this blog. There are other games that will be reviewed as well, including most of the Assassin's Creed games, the Devil May Cry series, the Borderlands games, Final Fantasy games, and some lesser known games as well.

That said, a brief explanation of my blog title might be in order, huh? I'm a writer (I mentioned that) and my bestselling novel is a Regency romance called Heartless. It's kind of become a thing with me. That's it. Nothing more. I don't plan to tear apart games, developers, publishers, or designers here. There may be the occasional rant directed at a game, but I realize more than most that there are real people behind all creative projects. I don't want to intentionally hurt anyone's feelings.

Until next time. Mwah!
