New Loot! (#6)

Holy crap. I went frickin' crazy a few weeks ago. I was going to share all the games/gaming-related items I bought, then I lost my internet... So I'm sharing all this now. :)

***Bayonetta***

Published by SEGA
Developed by PlatinumGames
Released 2009
*Rated M for Mature 17+*

Dear God, this game is aimed so much at men, and pervy ones at that! [snort] Still, it's a pretty fun button-masher, and if you don't shy away from... suggestive garbage... I recommend it... so far...

***Devil May Cry: Animated Series***

Studio: Funimation Prod
Released 2010
*Not Rated* (I'd personally rate it M)

So, not a game, though definitely game-related as it's based on a game. I've watched all 12 episodes already, of course, so there will be a review in another post. Kinda funny, kinda interesting, kinda weird, kinda freaky, kinda gross. I kinda like it. A lot.

***Brothers***

Published by 505 Games
Developed by Starbreeze Studios
Released 2013
*Rated T for Teen*

Super cute puzzle/platformer game, where instead of beating the crap outta things, you have to overcome the baddies and bosses by getting around them. Very neat.*

***Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning***

Published by Electronic Arts, Inc.
Developed by 38 Studios/Big Huge Games
Released 2012
*Rated M for Mature 17+*

Cool game. I wasn't too interested in this when it first came out, even after playing the demo. But $2.99 (Xbox Live Marketplace Black Friday Sale) is the magic number for me.

***Tales from the Borderlands: Episode 1***

Published by 2K games
Developed by Gearbox Software and Tell Tale Games
Released 2014
*Rated M for Mature 17+*

Hilarious. More of an interactive movie than an actual video game, but still pretty cool. Only takes a couple of hours, but there are four more episodes on the way. And yes, I will be buying the season pass so I can save myself $5.* I mean, why not?

New Loot! (#5)

Yet again, a new game has entered my home, this time "owned" by the husband. We'll see how long it stays with his Xbox before it's relocated to mine. ;)

***Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!***

Published by 2K Games
Developed by Gearbox Software
Released Oct 14, 2014
*Rated M for Mature 17+*

If you've played the first two games and enjoyed them, you have to add the pre-sequel, if only to make your collection complete. Of course, for a truly complete collection, you need all the DLC too. The husband has the DLC for the first two games. I'm sure he'll get it for this one too. Oh, and yeah, we pre-ordered this, so we've had it since Friday. First time that's ever happened in this particular gaming family.

We haven't made it all the way through yet, but we like it so far. There are new things to get used to, but many things are exactly the same, making it a very easy transition from Borderlands 2. And in case you're wondering, Claptrap is the best character. If you hate him, you might not want to pick him. lol

Until next time...

New Loot! (#4)

Yet again, I bought games without really planning to, and certainly with no need to—I have several games at the moment that I have yet to complete.

The difference this time, though, is WHERE I got the games. I went to a semi-local used games store, Game On. I'd never been there before, but my hubby told me I should check it out. It's a neat little store with tons of games for every gaming platform ever devised. I was quite impressed. Then I found two games from my wishlist and I was thrilled!

***Infinite Undiscovery***

Published by Square Enix
Developed by tri-Ace
Released 2008
*Rated T for Teen*

Honestly, I don't remember why I put this on my wishlist, other than the fact that it's published by Squeenix. I'm a bit of a Squeenix fan, thus the reason I'll buy a FF game that kinda sucks.

This game is a little different. It's the RPG style, but without the turn-based battles. In fact, it doesn't even have the RPG aspect, not that I've managed to figure out anyway. So...yeah. I wanted it 'cause it's Squeenix and nothing more. lol

Where to buy?

***N3II: Ninety-Nine Nights***

Published by Konami
Developed by feelplus
Released 2010
*Rated M for Mature 17+*

This is one of those games where the demo leaves you wondering, "Do I really want it?" I figured, yeah, what the heck. There's a part of me that really enjoys the hack n slash style of gaming and this game really fits the bill. Even better, it has that interesting RPG (character building) aspect to it. (Yes, I've already plugged it in and tried it out. I'm a hardened gamer after all.) ;)

Where to buy?

A few blog changes...

I haven't had this blog long and I already see where I can make improvements. Not unusual, actually, even when I don't have a readership yet.

Main thing I'm looking at now, my blog is weighted far too much in Amazon's direction.  Not really surprising when I'm an affiliate there. However, I would like this blog to be of benefit to everyone, regardless of which online store they frequent.

I'm also very much Xbox happy. Also not surprising, considering I play most games on Xbox 360. However, I'd like PlayStation and PC users to find some benefit from this blog as well. And while, at this point, I have little to no experience with PS or PC versions of games, I can at least link to places that have some of that info.

To that end, each review and all future posts will include a variety of purchase links when possible (Amazon, Gamestop, Walmart, Best Buy, Xbox Live Marketplace, and PlayStation Store), as well as Xbox, PlayStation, and PC versions. I'll try to keep it succinct to avoid deluging you lovely readers with nothing but link after link after link. I know how annoying that can be. ;)

Until next time...

New Loot! (#3)

I guess I lied when I said I rarely get new games. [shrug] Here's my latest score.

***Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition***

I've heard good (and bad) things about the Witcher series, but the bottom line: It's supposed to be one of the better storylines in gaming. That sold me. I'll try to overlook anything I find objectionable, and hopefully there isn't so much that I have a hard time enjoying the story and gameplay. We'll see.

Another selling point for me is that this game includes the complete soundtrack. I'm really getting into collecting game soundtracks lately and I hope this is one I like.

***Devil May Cry 4 Original Soundtrack***

Speaking of OSTs, the other thing in this box of loot is the complete soundtrack for Devil May Cry 4. Yes, I said I would get it and I was done waiting (worst week of my life! lol). It set me back $20 but for 100+ songs on three discs, I'd say that's fair. I've liked the music since my first playthrough, so it makes sense to add this to my collection.

I shouldn't be adding any new loot for a while. I mean, I have bills to pay and two children to feed. My royalties don't allow for most of my money to be spent on my gaming habit. I wish. lol ;)

On the Horizon (#3)

Yet another post where I dream about the games to come...

***Final Fantasy XV***

Published by Square Enix
Developed by Square Enix
Coming 2015 (December)
*Rating Pending*
(Most likely T for Teen.)

I've been a fan of Final Fantasy since the original game on the NES. My love for JRPGs has a lot to do with that game, as well as Dragon Warrior (also NES).

I loved VII and found VIII to be quite enjoyable. Then I got XIII and despite my disappointment with that one, I bought XIII-2. That was better. I have Lightning's Return on my wishlist (I'll get it once the price drops a little more), but it's XV that I'm really looking forward too.

I know this one's a ways off from release. I'm waiting a bit impatiently for it, but I think Lightning's Return will [mostly] tide me over until then—once I actually have that game. lol

Because it's so far from release, there's not a lot of info on it yet. I did find one site that has a fair amount of info, pics, and vidz all related to FFXV: FF15 Home.

Edited 9/19/2014 to add another link with info on this upcoming game: gamesradar.

On the Horizon (#2)

Another post where I dream about the games to come...

***Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel***

Published by 2K Games
Developed by Gearbox Software
Coming 2014 (October)
*Rated M for Mature 17+*

This is one of those games I can't help but be excited about. I really enjoyed the first two games, the second being even better than the first. I have high hopes of the Pre-Sequel. My husband and brother are just as excited about this one.

For those unfamiliar with the Borderlands games, they are first person shooters, multi-player, and a heckuva lotta fun. The comedy is crass and often dark. This is definitely a series of games that doesn't take themselves too seriously.

New Loot! (#2)

I have the bestest* hubby ever. I really do. He doesn't understand my gaming obsession, but he tries. It's sweet. (He's a casual gamer, only playing a little here and there when the mood strikes him.)

When I approached him about the Devil May Cry 4 Collector's Edition I found on eBay—I already have the game on my xbox so I really didn't need the game again—he clicked all the required buttons to make sure it was mine, all mine. (I don't have an eBay account, and he does.) He's such a doll. ♥

In my many, many hours playing DMC4 (current count is 160+ last I checked), I realized how much I enjoyed the music. So I looked into getting the soundtrack. (I think I'm just gonna give in and collect the soundtracks from all the games I play. COLLECT ALL THE SOUNDTRACKS!!)

Ehem.

Anyway, I discovered the DMC4 Collector's Edition includes the soundtrack. Imagine my delight!

ONLY FIVE!?!
So this little beauty arrives and I tear open the box. It's in a fancy metal box, with a bonus DVD and a special DVD of the animated show. I popped the bonus DVD into the computer and pored over the content, eager to find the music, determined to have it on my mp3 player within the next twenty minutes.

Alas, "game soundtrack" does not mean the whole soundtrack. It means five (FIVE!!!) songs from the game. Granted, they are the main songs, the ones that would probably be most in demand, but still. FIVE.

I'll get over my disappointment, and I'll enjoy these five songs until I get my hands on the WHOLE soundtrack. But that doesn't mean I'm not pouting right now. :'(

*You may not think bestest is a word, but my best friend assures me it is, and she's never wrong. ;)

On the Horizon (#1)

Ever have those games you can hardly wait to own? I'm in that boat just like anyone else, so here's my first post to that effect.

Assassin's Creed: Rogue & Assassin's Creed: Unity

I'm a reluctant fan of the Assassin's Creed series. I say reluctant because there is just something... distasteful about being a dude (or chick—AC: Liberation) runnin' around stabbing people for looking at ya funny. (I know, there's more to it than that. Still.)

I am a huge fan of the graphics and settings for this series. (I write historical romance, for heaven's sake, so of course I'm in love with well done historical settings!) I hate tailing missions (who doesn't?) and platforming, but they're worth it to be able to climb to the top of a church and take that leap of faith. I can't tell you how much I love that. I used to do that with Lara Croft way back in Tomb Raider (2, I think), and she didn't survive the jump. Couldn't help myself, I made her leap anyway. (Does that mean I'm crazy??)

I digress.

Reasons for my anticipation for these games...

The conspiracy theories. I simply love the conspiracies that the AC developers include in their games. LOVE. THEM. It adds a certain... eeriness to the overall feel of the game. My opinion, and it's a weird one, I know, but I live with a conspiracy nut and I'm a bit of one myself.

There are other games I'm looking forward to, but I'll leave it at that for now.

Happy gaming! ♥

New Loot! (#1)

I may not buy games very often, but I figured I'd post when I do. The mail arrived today and in the Amazon box were the following games:

I've seen mixed reviews of the Devil May Cry HD Collection, but I knew I had to have it. I played halfway through the easy difficulty (Human) on Devil May Cry 4 (I've since played through the Devil Hunter difficulty and started on the Son of Sparda difficulty) and fell in love with the game. Naturally I looked into the previous games and was thrilled to find the first three games in one collection. Even better, a brand-new DmC game was also available and had been out long enough for the price to have come way down (YAY!!), putting it right in my price range. Even better than that, DmC was done by Ninja Theory, the freaking awesome developer behind Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Score!

Skyrim is a belated anniversary gift for my husband. This edition includes the DLC, and it's the one he indicated he'd be interested in playing. I'll probably play it too, but it's going to reside with his Xbox and his TV rather than mine.

The Heartless Gamer Girl has arrived!

I game. It's what I do when I'm depressed, though I sometimes use it for brainstorming. (I'm a writer.) Basically, it's a great escape, and a great way to burn off anger that has no other outlet. (I'm emotional.)

So here's this blog, one of about a dozen blogs I own, and this one will be dedicated to this side of myself that I barely understand. It's a side I might be a little ashamed of, but one I kinda love.

I love video games. Enough that I don't care about the lingo, the "in" thing, or the crowds and pastimes that typically appeal to gamers. Yes, I call myself a gamer. No, I don't really identify with gamers.

Xbox 360 is my current dealer, action RPGs and JRPGs my drug of choice. I've been known to venture into other genres, but these are the two I really enjoy.

Favorite game (ATM): Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Seriously love this game and I will write an official review for it, which I will then post on this blog. There are other games that will be reviewed as well, including most of the Assassin's Creed games, the Devil May Cry series, the Borderlands games, Final Fantasy games, and some lesser known games as well.

That said, a brief explanation of my blog title might be in order, huh? I'm a writer (I mentioned that) and my bestselling novel is a Regency romance called Heartless. It's kind of become a thing with me. That's it. Nothing more. I don't plan to tear apart games, developers, publishers, or designers here. There may be the occasional rant directed at a game, but I realize more than most that there are real people behind all creative projects. I don't want to intentionally hurt anyone's feelings.

Until next time. Mwah!
