—DLC Review— Episode Prompto (FFXV)

Some DLCs are good enough...or bad enough...that they need their own reviews. The FFXV DLCs fall into one (or more) of those categories...

***Episode Prompto***
Final Fantasy XV

Published and developed by Square Enix
Released 2017 | Action, Role-Playing
For Xbox One, PS4 | Review: PS4
*Rated T for Teen*

HGG Score: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 6/10

Synopsis?
You are Prompto from FFXV. You've been separated from your friends and must try to get back to them by any means necessary. It's snowy, but you have a snowmobile and warm clothes, so no worries.

First impressions?
A snowmobile?!?!? YES!

I really, really can't drive. In video games.
Yeah. That works.

Graphics and voices?
Same as FFXV. Lovely.
...and sometimes glitchy.

Gameplay?
A little different than the base game. You are Prompto and his attacks are...well, guns. So you shoot things. Hopefully from a great distance, as Prompto's defense has always been, and still is, rather sucky. You can shoot from the snowmobile too, and that's kinda cool.

Storyline?
I like the story this adds to the overall FFXV tale. It's better than Gladio's pity party, and while Prompto's a whiny little thing, at least he has reason to be, and he does get over it. Eventually. With Aranea's help, of course. ♥♥♥

Complaints?
Weak attack, no leveling, and upgrading the snowmobile was a strange addition, IMO. There are little sidequests you can stumble into that will net you the parts you need to upgrade it, making it faster and whatnot. I suppose that's useful for the races, but I hate the races. I crash a LOT.

It seemed quite glitchy, more so than any other DLC for FFXV or even the base game itself. I had moments where Prompto's just standing there and then all of a sudden, Aranea teleports to his side and they both magically appear beside the snowmobile. Really strange.

The beginning is a bit annoying. For what seems like FOREVER you have to move forward, very slowly, until Prompto collapses.

Praise?
Aranea. I could never have beaten that nasty behemoth without her. She really needs her own playable DLC.

Finishing this DLC does net you a new outfit for Prompto (Tundra Attire), a new gun (Lion Heart), and a new Bullet Art (Trigger-Happy). And there are different things you can find in the DLC itself to change his a look a bit.

Overall?
Better than Episode Gladiolus. A nice addition to the FFXV story, though IMO a little lacking in replayability◄◄◄ totally a word because I say it is....

HGG score?
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 6/10 life hearts.

Where to buy?
Until next time...
